A Brief Overview about Toulouse
Toulouse is an idyllic French city that celebrates the arts, culture, history, daily life, and even sports. From its importance in aviation history thanks to Airbus to Le Petit Prince's aviator-author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry to Toulouse rugby to Sunday street markets, there is literally something for everyone's interests in the Pink City. For newlyweds seeking a romantic and intimate honeymoon destination in France, Toulouse should be top of the list.
When it comes to local friendliness, Toulouse certainly does not disappoint. Whether it's the waiter in a café or the bus driver, the locals are incredibly welcoming and helpful. They take pride in their city and love sharing their stories and culture with visitors. And when you want to practice your French with them, your effort does not go unnoticed as they share a smile!
Toulouse is also easy on the wallet as it accepts both cash in Euros and credit cards most everywhere you go. You will find banks, taxis, buses, and all other modern travel conveniences in the city as you would in the rest of France. It is worth nothing that Sundays are much quieter in the city center than on a weekday because a lot of shops, pharmacies, and grocery stores are either closed or have very limited hours. So if you are visiting on a weekend, keep that in mind when making plans.
How to Get to Toulouse to Start Your France Honeymoon
Getting to Toulouse to begin your romantic France honeymoon is a breeze. The city is conveniently served by Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, which offers numerous international flights from the U.S. and Europe. Once you arrive, you can easily reach the city center by taking the tram, taxi, or shuttle. Run by the local transport Tisseo, the Airport Shuttle (Navette Aéroport) goes from the airport to the city centre or train station that operates every 20 minutes for only 9,00€ (each way).
And once you’re in the city center, there is a Navette Centre Ville which is a free (yes, free!) electric shuttle bus that takes passengers around the historic city. It operates every day except Sunday between 9:12am and 7 pm. Simply give a wave at the shuttle stop, and the driver will stop for you. It’s not well-advertised, but you can find the stops on the local transport website Tisseo under "City Centre Shuttle."
After you have enjoyed the sights of Toulouse and are ready to see the rest of France, domestic transportation is easy! If you prefer train travel, Toulouse is well-connected to major cities in France and Europe, with the Toulouse Matabiau train station located in the heart of the city (where the airport shuttle also goes to).
Whether you choose to fly or take the train, your journey to Toulouse will be the perfect weekend stop on your unforgettable European honeymoon.

Herein enters the friendly Radisson Blu Hotel near the Toulouse Airport so you can maximize your time in the Pink City, and where we personally stayed on our trip.Located just a short free hotel shuttle ride from the airport, this 4-star hotel offers the perfect blend of comfort and convenience with warm, friendly staff eager to make your stay perfect. Everyone speaks English to help you during your visit, and some are eager to practice their English as you might be with your French!

Radisson Blu's updated rooms provide a peaceful haven for you and your partner with modern amenities, wood effect flooring, and plush colorful furnishings. We stayed in their Junior Suite overlooking their vineyard patio area, and our room was quiet and brimming with rare complimentary toiletries like pillow spray, bath salts, slippers, and hand cream. Easy comfort was exactly what we were looking for when it came to a short stop in Toulouse, and here we got it.
Adjacent to their beautiful homegrown grapevines, daily hot breakfast is located in their La Vie en Rose restaurant, and it boasts an American-, European-, and British-inspired breakfast smorgasbord with eggs, cheeses, meats, baked beans, yogurts, pastries, and more. For couples with dietary restrictions and allergies, you're in safe hands here as there is visible signage sharing their allergen-friendly accommodations. Exploring the Charming Streets of Toulouse
Once you step foot in the city center of Toulouse, you'll instantly be captivated by its charm. Its picturesque streets are lined with old rosé-colored buildings that will take you on a journey through time while still romancing you into the modern day. Take your time to explore the bustling markets like the large Les Halles Victor-Hugo, where you can find fresh produce, wine bars, and delicious pastries. Admire the beautiful architecture, from the iconic Capitole de Toulouse city hall building to the stunning Basilica of Saint-Sernin. As you wander, don't forget to stop and soak up the lively atmosphere of street musicians and artists that make Toulouse enchanting in only the way the French can do.For couples looking to get a special view of the city, a stroll along the Garonne River from the Place Saint-Pierre park will offer up the sight of the lovely Pont Neuf bridge and the giant green-domed building Hôpital de La Grave. On Sundays along the river, you may also find a hidden gem of an artisans' market that boasts local, handmade products like art prints, hats, clothing, ceramics, and more.
As night falls, Toulouse comes alive with its vibrant nightlife. From trendy bars to bustling nightclubs, the city (also home to Université de Toulouse) offers plenty of options for an evening of fun and romance. Dance the night away to live music, sip on drinks on the rooftop of the Galeries Lafayette with panoramic views, or simply take another leisurely nighttime walk along the river, hand in hand with your loved one.
Indulging in French Cuisine
No visit to Toulouse would be complete without indulging in the mouthwatering French cuisine as this city offers a gastronomic experience that all francophiles will fall in love with again and again. For the vibrant food markets, such as the largest Marché Victor Hugo to the Sunday-only Marché de Saint Aubin, one can sample local, regional, and European delicacies, particularly the incredible variety of French cheeses, from soft and creamy camembert to tangy sheep's milk cheeses.Love crêpes? There are oodles of crêperies to enjoy, but for gluten-free travelers, Pastel et Sarrasin only serves gluten-free buckwheat crêpes or galettes, so you'll find delicious sweet and savory options to safely eat. Surrounded by locals brunching who clearly were frequent customers, I loved their Complet crêpe made with organic egg, classic ham, and emmental cheese while my husband devoured their Pyrénéenne dish of eggs, Bethmale cheese, smoked bacon, potatoes, and fresh cream.
As evening falls, indulge in the delicious French cuisine that Toulouse is renowned for. From traditional bistros to Michelin-starred restaurants, the city offers a plethora of dining options to satisfy every palate. Sample the local delicacies such as cassoulet, a hearty stew made with white beans and meat, or enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner at one of the charming riverside eateries. While meat is definitely a menu staple, you will still find vegetarian and vegan options at many establishments in the city.
When it comes to beverages, there is no shortage of regional wines. You're in France after all! But should you want to go non-alcoholic and love floral flavors, ask for violet syrup with water. The violet is Toulouse's flower, so you will see drinks, candies, jams, sauces, and more made with this delicate purple flower.
And, of course, no visit to Toulouse is complete without indulging in a flaky chocolatine (don't call it a pain au chocolat here!) from one of the city's many boulangeries. So grab a pastry and indulge in the flavors of Toulouse, a food lover's paradise!
